Backgrounder

Fundamental Objects, Inc. (FO) is a software development consulting firm. Founded in 1995, FO provides custom software development and project management on specialized corporate and government projects. FO also markets pre-packaged software development tools (http://www.fo.com/products.asp and http://www.fo.com/pda) as well as providing teaching and mentoring services. What we enjoy most is truly partnering with companies -- which provides for far "stronger" solutions than are normally possible.

We were one of the first firms integrating pda (handheld) and web-based applications, with our first such offering in 1998.

We are a member of the PalmSource Developer Program, A Palm partner, a Hewlett Packard partner, a Symbol (bar coding) partner program for handheld development, an Intellisync, Symbian, SprintPCS partner and a member of the Sun Developer Program. Additionally, we have partners in vertical markets as well, such as the Energy Coordinating Agency of Philadelphia; with whom we have done a very large intranet database application that is now being sold as a package.

Our consultants are known in the industry and are not "learning while they work". This allows us to provide expert analysis as well as very timely delivery schedules -- that are met with actual deliveries as scheduled. Our consulting staff skills include project management, business analysis, software development, database construction and integration, infrastructure planning, tool assessment, World Wide Web architecture, platforms and development.

We write web-related and handheld articles for Microsoft, The Gartner Group (TechRepublic) and a number of trade magazines. We also have books out on topics such as SQL Server and Visual Basic.

Magazines

Over the years, FO has worked with major financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, large communication firms, such as AT&T and Lucent as well as city and state government agencies. FO has provided complete software development and project management initiatives, as well as shrink wrapped tools to these firms. We have equipped Fortune 500 organizations with long term systems integration plans and implemented these plans.

Tools and Methodologies

Some of the technologies and tools utilized include software development packages such as Microsoft Visual Basic, C, C++, AppForge, Satellite Forms, Lotus Notes, FoxPro, Clipper, ASP, Fortran, Sybase, DB/2, SQL Server, Oracle, Internet HTML tools such as Microsoft FrontPage, and Microsoft Office. The networking environments that we have helped to set up include Windows NT, IIS, UNIX, OS/2, OS/400, OS/390, the PalmOS and WinCE.

We use rapid application development (RAD) methodologies, applied to constructing software, which greatly increases our reaction time and also helps to ensure that all client needs are met. We use a similar iterative process to perform business analysis and workflow documentation, which again, means that our customers get more of what they actually need in the final result.

Future Plans

We have launched full initiatives in handheld computing, including (symbian-based) phone interfaces. This will be a highly important area now and into the future.
