Ok, the Hello Moto catch phrase might be annoying.
But the Moto Q (Blackberry Killer?) from Motorola is getting a lot of press.
This might be one to keep an eye on in '06.
  • Dual, stereo-quality speakers.
  • 11.5mm thick.
  • mini-usb, bluetooth support.
  • Advanced speech recognition and speakerphone.
  • Camera.
  • Video file support.
  • Decent key|thumbboard.

Jan 26 1src Podcast (freeware)
http://www.1src.com/podcasts/1SRCPodcastSixty.mp3
by Alan Grassia, this is somewhat like a verbal, informative RSS file for the 1src site. They discuss things ranging from how the Palm platform would benefit from being taken over by Apple, to the pluses/minuses of the new Mini-Opera browser and the fastest Palm of all time (The Tungsten C!).

A mike that reduces the im"P"act of certain spoken letters would be helpful -- but, all-in-all, this is an interesting review of the state of Palm.

Developing Treo 700W apps

Hello there, PalmOS Developers?

Remember back to 2005, when you could load the nice, small, self-contained Palm emulator on a system, along with the open source GCC compiler -- and install .prcs right into the emulator to do your development and testing?

(Take a deep breath before reading on).

Here is what is needed to develop Treo 700W (Windows Mobile) apps.

FO News  Palm Pocket PC Phone

We have a new product offering, foLicense.

  http://www.fo.com/pda/folicense.htm
foLicense is a server-based toolset, that provides PDA user-registration in a centralized way, for multi-user apps. Rather than users having to register each individual PDA (and you having to deal with name changes; re-registering users after losing PDAs; AND supporting users during initial registration) foLicense takes care of that all in once place. On the server. Convenient web pages are available showing user counts | server counts and connections made. Multiple apps per server are also supported.

Part and parcel with the foLicense product, we also provide custom coding for sentinel code protection devices. These newer breed "Dongle" devices help to prevent your server-based applications from traveling to places that they shouldn't -- and this is what we use to lock down our foLicense toolset.

See http://www.fo.com/pda/folicense.htm for more.

Reader Tips

TIP:
Is it possible to do shortcuts on the Treo 650?
Submitted by Sam Kamens, via Pilot List.

It is possible to do shortcuts on the 650, but it's a hassle.
You have to enter the key sequence s-Alt-Alt-Alt-Alt-Center to select the shortcut symbol, and then enter the shortcut text. Not exactly a shortcut ;-).

However, there's a shortcut replacement app called ShortCut5 (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/shortcut5.shtml) which turns the period into a shortcut key.

Works great, and I use it all the time.

Sam.
