Press Release

Downingtown, PADecember 1, 1998 — Rabuck Associates and Fundamental Objects announce the HandGuide, a Development Methodology for Domino.

Based on our experiences of working with wireless access devices for over 5 years, we have found the need for a specific guide in developing mobile technology applications. The HandGuide development process helps to guide clients through the confusing maze of evaluating connectivity issues, which surround the integration of: handheld devices; wired and wireless connectivity options; email; database and internet access; and the total development effort to put all of the pieces together within a Domino infrastructure.

One of the key components used for integration is the Lotus Pager Gateway product.

“This product allows more than simple pager integration“, according to Fran Rabuck, President of Rabuck Associates. Through our custom development efforts, we're looking to extend the concept of the client for Lotus Notes beyond the desktop Notes client and browser. We think that many of the current applications in the Lotus Notes and Domino world can be extended to a whole new wave of handheld devices including 2-way pagers, PalmPilot, CE devices and Smartphones.

Bill Shadish, Principal with Fundamental Objects adds, “Our clients have shown a rapidly growing interest in truly integrating the palm-sized form factor devices within traditionally developed applications; such as those on the mainframe and client server application architectures. This effort addresses the needs of our client set and provides a useable methodology for ongoing development.“

Current collaborative projects involve a series of development procedures, frameworks and evaluation criteria to deploy and measure the effectiveness of Palm™ Computing technology and Lotus Domino. The development process begins with an education session for our clients on the technology available today and both it's strengths and weaknesses. This process extends into an analysis of the client's application and a series of interactive sessions that help define the first prototype. The remaining steps in the process include data synchronization, device management, code refresh and data backup. Assistance with user training and deployment complete the development cycle, along with a series of metrics to measure the value and effectiveness of the application.

We are also currently working on integrating these handheld devices with Lotus Sametime technology. As a result of our development efforts on several handheld projects and our experience with Lotus Notes, we expect to release integration technologies for handheld devices and Sametime about 90 days after the initial release of the Sametime product.
